ok, it seems that in the recent months prolog and sectv have decided
its ok to commit fraud upon its users and send bandwidth usage letters
to its heavy downloaders. obviously this is not legal, as there is no
official quota and the service is advertised, and labeld in its own
agreements as being "unlimited".

has anyone tryied just calling them back and calling them out on this
practice of hording bandwidth? i have herd of this actualy working
with enternet, i knew someone who got bullied in the same manner untill
one of my freinds called them up and bitched them out for being such
despicable assholes and the warnings and the cutoffs stopped.

wouldnt it be better to dump more bandwidth into the system and
furtherly reduce the line to user ratio?

instead 1 branch that feeds a street feeds 10 users have 2 branches
feed 1 street with 5 users per branch.

also check the ground connection to the cable box because the on on my
housewas loose causing some ground loop bands showing on tv and may be
part to cause cable modem problems.

also the ground should be connected to a ground rod in the ground and
not to the body of the electric meter.

I just got this 'letter' today. I had downloaded 80+GB each month in
the last few months up from 40-50GB. In case you're wondering, Prolog
does offer great charts and data about your exact usage at:

http://server4.engr.ptd.net/login/cablereports/res_util.cgi

It would seem the cutoff for 'extreme' bandwidth use is 60-70GBs/month
or so. I am in the G7 (7meg/800k) plan, the G10 might be different.

I'm wondering what to do. Should I fight or just meekly reduce my
usage. I don't consider my usage excessive. I use MSDN, video
conference, Linux distros, youtube, Vonage, iTunes, some CinemaNow
movie downloads... I guess it just adds up.

I am considering writing a letter to them politely asking how they plan
to deal with HDTV content downloads in the future - especially with the
Xbox 360 and the PS3 in the future? You could get 80GBs in a couple
weeks downloading HD trailers, games and full length features that will
undoubtably be available from MS and Sony in the coming months.

I think the best thing to do is to complain about the monopolistic
practices of cable providers to your State Government Reps. If enough
people complain, they WILL listen.
