Please watch this video about CloudWorks and see if like me you kept
substituting 'innovation' for various terms?

http://cloudworks.ac.uk/support

My hunch is this and an ATIB style DB may be most of what we need. I
like it as it's really unstructured which I think we need. Thoughts?

Now the really great thing is that we (OSS Watch) are advising
Juliette Culver on open sourcing it. As it's PHP/MySQL it should be
usable and we also have a project we can contribute to.

Have a look at this cloudscape:

and here's Juliette's blog post:

Would need an accessibility audit

I've been playing with cloudworks and put a few thoughts on a cloud

http://cloudworks.ac.uk/cloud/view/4248

They have been responsive so far and one of the developers is
interested in accessibility.
I'll see if I can get a tarball and have a play.

Many thanks Steve for the idea as I had forgotten this one! I signed into
Cloudworks sometime ago as we worked with Gráinne Conole when we were doing
the LexDis project. It is a very clean interface and just so easy to use.

I have been adding little things to Steve's article about Realise
http://cloudworks.ac.uk/cloud/view/4248 and found when I wanted to add a
cloud they were using a stripped down version of TinyMCE editor with no
spell checker. However, it had access keys and good keyboard accessibility
-just need to get the toolbar to work with the editor properly! I have
registered a bit of bug with the spell checker not putting the corrected
word in place even though it catches the mis-spellings and shows you the
corrections.

The main problem I find with Cloudworks is the endless stream of different
bits of content that can only be tackled in a linear way so you can't add a
comment to an extra piece of content half way up the page! So my remark
about 'Realising potential through partnerships' comes miles down the page
when Steve's initial comment is half way along! It may be a case of having
to make sure you have different clouds for every topic and then having the
links and extra content very closely tied into the subject. I think I would
also want a visual overview of the whole site we might create as I can see
myself getting lost in the mass of data.

I bet this is a problem with all our possible Web 2.0 type choices so we
need to check this issues with A-tutor (when we can get that working), My
experiment and Drupal.

Ah great! Interesting reading some of the things Gráinne Conole says
and I get the impression much of their research and approach is also
very relevant to how we plan to approach REALISE and what we need to
do. You could consider cloudworks to be for open innovation in
education tech. How about we arrange a meeting to discuss possible
links?

Yes I agree. I think the low barriers position and freedom to allow
emergent behaviour is important for adoption. Plus I found it
interesting that they had removed distinctions like cloud types as I
have been thinking about this issue.

And I also replied there (in content flow, which is propbably not
really the right way to do it)

I made contact with some people who may be working on that.

Where did you do that? I've just used their UserVoice account.

Some very good points and I agree. I'd like thread discussions or at
leas switchable views.

Yep I don't want to jump the analysis stage but my feeling at this
point is Cloudworks offers the right functionality for social side and
the team will be closely aligned to our requirements so we could
collab well on the OSS version. I could even envision it providing a
suitable single community for all stakeholders and being the main
interface, with innovation details added as embedded content (via a
W3C Wookie widget).

All very interesting. I'm trying to get hold of it before I go on holiday.

Drupal and Myexperiment accessibility audit up on www.Web2Access.org.uk
and we are looking at A-tutor now and adding Cloudworks to the site as
well although I have to agree with the issues arising with rich text
editors and adding HTML tags to required menu items below the editor
is the simplist way round the problem.
