Our first guest Mary Dudziak is author of the new book "War Time: An Idea, Its History, Its Consequences ." She is a Professor of Law, History and Political Science at the University of Southern California Law School. Her books include Exporting American Dreams: Thurgood Marshall's African Journey and Cold War Civil Rights. She asks when is wartime? On the surface, it is a period of time in which a society is at war. What dose that mean with the war on terror, this endless war we seem to live in?
In the 2ed hour we will play a talk by Michelle Alexander author of the new book" New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the age of Colorblindness." She is a longtime civil rights advocate and litigator. She holds a joint appointment at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity and the Mortiz College of Law at Ohio State University. Alexander served for several years as director of the Racial Justice Project at the ACLU of Northern California. The talk comes from Global Voices for Justice.
