A short walk from lower Penwortham to the swish visitor Centre allowed
me to see; redshank, cormorant, 9 teal, black headed gull, mallard on
the Ribble and mistle thrush, long tailed tit and goldcrest in the
Japanese Garden

Unfortunately the high tide at 13:50 hours today didn't coincide with
a south-westerly wind, and consequently the marsh remained relatively
unflooded. The recent records of 6 and 7 Short-eared Owls had reduced

Plenty of bird song around the village this morning with Song Thrush,
Mistle Thrush, House Sparrows, Great Tits all holding territory and a
Chaffinch making a half-hearted attempt at song.
The reserve is mostly icebound but a single Great Crested Grebe and

While walking through the park I recorded 15 Redwing 4 mistle thrush 1
song thrush 9 wood pigeon and 7 long-tailed tit in addition to the
usual residents. No sign of the mandarin which were there from January
2nd to 10th

There is another Smew on Freeman's Pool, Aldcliffe, this afternoon.
The 4 Redheads returned to Alston Reservoirs tonight.

I got my Gen from Birdguides last night, not first hand.
They seem to be quite mobile. When I saw Myerscough, I immediately thought
of the "Fylde!" but it refers to the Myerscough Arms area near the Pub by
BAe.
I would like to see them in our area. Four is a good number.
