Just a quick update on my mother. She will probably be in the neuro ICU at UAB for a week. Her mental status will deteriorate for a while as the clots resolve and release substances that cause inflamation and swelling. Today she has been most difficult to arouse normally, but got really feisty and moved all four limbs when her nures had to reposition her ng tube. So, that is good, and means she is not in a coma. There is a reasonable chance that she can regain her former state eventually, if the hazards she faces don't do her in. So far no infections are present, and she continues to breathe on her own. Resting mostly quietly. We are essentially in waiting mode. She is unlikely to require surgery. Appreciate your concerns. John

Subject: Prescott Church List update on John Whirley's Mother

Hello all,

Keep praying hard!  Prayer is powerful--moreso when people know they are encircled in prayer!!  I spoke with John Whirley earlier today, where they were still waiting to hear some results of some tests.  His mother has had a very serious head injury, though at the time of our conversation, she was not in a coma, per se, but she was not fully concious.  John, Anne, and the family could use your prayers, too.  Most of you know how tiring it is to worry, to be concerned and at "attention" when a loved one is in such a position.

May God's healing power be upon those who are looking after John's mother, and may the comfort of Christ envelope her and surround the whole family.

Take Care, and I will update you tomorrow.

Marise

Thank you, Jody. nothing much is improving yet, but she has not experienced further decline since Mon early when they put her on a vent and seizure meds. hopefully these are both temporary. Doctors have not given us reason to give up hope of a good recovery at this point, and her course is following predictions of possibilities pretty well. I think she is getting good care here at UAB.

I was premature in this response. Within a few minutes I got the call we had been hoping not to get. it appears my mother is in deep coma and organ failure and her attending physician offers no hope for survival. We will meet with palliative care team in the morning to make further decisions re her final care. Thanks to all for your concern and prayers. John
