Hi,

Apologies for the delayed response - busy week!

I'll definitely have a look into how easy it would be to integrate
freeframeGL into the current OpenGL pipeline. The example you sent is
interesting, though is something I'd like to see as a built in Praxis
component - the OpenGL pipeline already has code that can achieve

 Thanks for the reply Neil.
Here is a pretty major example of a powerful freeframeGL FX that I would
love to use: [link]
There are many, but not hundreds out there.. enough maybe to make it worth
while.
Any sort of tutorials you can add to your blog would be great.. Praxis is
making me thing I will have to get into processing finally.

 Hi,

It's a possibility I'll keep in mind. However, much of the work I'm
doing at the moment is concentrating on the OpenGL pipeline, and I'm
loathe to put too much time into things that can't be accelerated at
the moment - maybe need to investigate freeframegl more - are there
many GL plugins?

Great framework.. I am really enjoying getting started with it.
a have a few things I would love to see added.
1: support for freeframe (maybe freeframegl later ;), this would give you a
lot of pixel effects
2: as a gui item, and perhaps in the applications gui as well.. a video
preview panel.. that will show the video passing thru the active cord. Yes, I'm guessing, and your point about JVM is important - I hadn't
realised that was such an issue.

No, it suited that setup, which was of a 'master' unit overseeing the
whole performance, but isn't essential.

Yes, might do that. Hi,

+1

I'd be tempted to dispute that comparison - with little evidence to hand! :)

The main issue is one of x86 vs ARM, and the low performance of free
JVMs on ARM. AFAIK the standard Fedora install for the Pi only has an
interpreter-only JVM, which is no good. Debian might be better as it

It would definitely be for low-end versions such as a couple of audio
streams, and yes, probably a sledgehammer - but it's often useful to
be able to use the same tool everywhere, and the small boards are
getting more powerful (r-pi is perhaps comparable with a 5 year old
recycled pc ?)

I'm guessing at how things work as I haven't looked deeply into it.

 Hi Adrian,

Thanks for your email / interest.

Praxis might not be the answer here. Sledgehammer to crack a nut
comes to mind! Hi,

As I mentioned on the oxhack list, I'm very interested in this.

I keep finding a need for a system that triggers sounds, light etc. in
response to sensors. It seems to be a recurring requirement for art
installations of all kinds. I've worked on various systems using
discrete Mp3 players etc. but the falling cost of small computer

The influence of the actor model - Praxis architecture 101

I finally got around to writing up a blog post on Praxis' underlying
architecture, its approach to dealing with multiple media, and the
influence of the actor model of concurrency in its design. Anyone
using JAudioLibs code in their own projects may also want to take a
look, at least at the first half!

OK. I know little of the maths behind FFT ... yet. :-)
The difference in rate would be the problem. Having audio buffers
with different sizes running in the same place in the component
hierarchy could be a problem.
So, the options would be for an FFT port type, or for an FFT component
that acts as a container and provides audio buffers of the required

 Google Code's search function.
I am using it on a PC running xubuntu. I have not tried it on my G5.
If I remember my math right, the FFT's output (be it cartesian or
phase/magnitude) cart/mag values should be within -1,1 - in the case
of phase, it is 0 to 2pi.
The output rate depends on the settings. Under simple settings it

 Hi,
Thanks for your interest. Answers to this email and questions from
your previous off-list email below.
Well, that's good feedback for a project that's still missing a
manual! :-) And, incidentally, how did you come across it? Better
publicising of Praxis is definitely another task for this year.

 Hi group

I am interested in writing components for Praxis and have a few
questions:

If I were to write some custom components (i.e. in the audio root)
where would I put the .jar?

If that .jar needed supporting libs, where would I put those
supporting libs?

How stable is the component API at this time?
