Hello everybody out there using Linux -

Google Chrome is go for beta on Linux! Thanks to the many Chromium and WebKit developers who helped make Google Chrome a lean, mean browsing machine. Here are a few fun facts from us on the Google Chrome for Linux team:

60,000 lines of Linux-specific code written
23 developer builds
2,713 Linux-specific bugs fixed
12 external committers and bug editors to the Google Chrome for Linux code base, 48 external code contributors

Thanks for waiting and we hope that you enjoy using Google Chrome!

I saw this announced and thought huh?

I have been using Chrome on Kubuntu for a while now ... although the
latest updates are a lot more usable - very annoying to come across a
pdf or video and find you need to change browser.

And now with plugins!

Perhaps I have been running an Alpha version - Beta, for Google, being
the release version :-)

BTW - just trying out Thunderbird 3. The new account wizard is pretty
cool - automatically checks the server and uses the most secure Imap
connection. Don't see a way to change it to a POP account... but it can
synchronize for off line use

Also - if you add the Lightning calendar - you get 'Convert to task' and
'Convert to Event' commands.

I did try a beta on another machine, and added my Gmail account. Very
easy to do but it started to down load all my Gmail mail (adds a
'Loading ...' image) - so use with caution :-) Lightning can publish to
(among other things) a Google calendar too.

Anyway - not finished playing with it yet.

Hi Don

I installed it on a friend's computer yesterday so below is from memory.

Go to the (Tools?) menu and click on Migration Wizard. Somewhere down
the page it explains the advantages/ disadvantages of IMAP vs POP and
you should see a button nearby which allows you to choose one or the
other. Once you have changed to POP you may have to delete the IMAP
account and set it up again as POP, I'm not sure as I haven't had time
to play with it properly.

It seems a strange way to choose between IMAP and POP to me, and it
seems to be global rather than on a per account basis. Perhaps I've
missed something.

Andy
