Hi,
Can anyone let me know when the space will be open this weekend? Or maybe just send out an email when the space is occupied? I have a few things , including an oil filled electric heater for the smaller room, to drop down.

I also have a 26" big heavy wideish screen CRT TV. Non HD, Only has scart and RCA inputs. - Not really sure if we want to have this?

Cheers,
David

Hi David,

We've agreed to meet around mid-day on Sunday. Someone should be there for most of the day.

I'm also going to be down there tomorrow, but I'll be in and out, picking up and dropping off, but you can always drop me an email to check if I'm there.

Yeah, I say just bring down whatever for now. After a while, anything we don't want will be donated to TECC.

I've asked Peter at TECC if they take CRTs, so it might be best waiting until we hear back until we start accepting them.

Cheers.

James,

Sunday mid day is fine by me and I’ll be happy to stay most of day to do wiring.

Which bring me to a question.. do you want the wiring in trunking or will cable clips do?

I ask as I am going shopping tomorrow morning for the back boxes and some more cable etc so will get what ever cable fastening we need at same time .

Ian

Hi ian,

Great stuff, I'll need someone on-site so I can go in and out as necessaries without having to lock up.

Trunking would be better, but it comes at a cost. How much can we get it for?

Ian Knight

James

Trunking is about £4 per 3m (I’ll check on Saturday) and we need about 15m I would say so I guess about £20 or so.

But why don’t I just do the wiring and tack it with clips then I can measure it and fit it on next hack day.

Perfect. We need to actually put into the kitty too, I forgot to call them all in before we went on Wednesday.

Just thinking we'd forgotten about that! So apart from the electrics what's happening sunday? I think you mentioned needing a hand lifting something?

it sounds like we could use that 8"x4" pine for that vice, would be nice and sturdy.

Simon,

It depends what I get done tomorrow now to be honest.

If I need to do another trip on Sunday I might need some muscle.

I'll try and keep you posted.

I am going to be in and out of a van tomorrow so I can't be 100% sure what time I'll be there at the moment.

I'll try and keep you posted.

Jim,

Looks like Saturday timing is a bit hit and miss but Sunday I’ll be in at noon to start the wiring, this will take some hours

So Sunday afternoon should be ok, or next meeting if you want.

Which ever suits you best, but nice to see you on either or both days.

As for filling the bottle, well not sure we’ll take a look at it and figure it out…. After all we are hackers.

Ian

I've got an old gas heater I could bring down, long term loan kinda thing. Can bring it either this weekend or next meeting.
Any idea where to get the gas bottle refilled?

Hi Jim,
Normally you go to caravan sales places, or some petrol stations do it. There used to be a CalorGas place at Festival Park near Staples as well. They don't fill it, you just do a,like for like swap and just pay for the gas..

In the eternal words of Snap!, "We've got the power!"

Yup, we're all hooked up now. Ian intends on redoing a little bit of it at a later date, but it'll be fine for now.

I've dropped off more desks and chairs, as well as loads of surplus "stock" (computers, cables, electrical stuff, etc).

Also, Dave very kindly came down and dropped off some heaters, mugs, hoover, screw driver and a few other bits and bobs for Hackspace use.

It's been a busy weekend for me: I did 2 van loads from Stafford, helped out "refitting" (destroying) a showroom there, filling a skip, shifted stuff from my folks place to my house, moved surplus stuff from mine to Hackspace, and then helped out on Sunday with the wiring and general sorting out.

I'm actually glad to be back at work for a rest!

Having said that, roll on Wednesday...

Thomas Hancock

Indeed,

I had an idea of perhaps making some trunking with plywood etc, so that we could just fix the power points into that, along with RJ45 connectors
just an idea, but that way, as / when we move, we can just take the trunking with, prewired...

James Wade

unread,
Nov 5, 2012, 4:43:52 AM11/5/12

Ian had very kindly already beat us to it by buying some plastic trunking.

Jib also mentioned a similar thing, but by that point Ian was already in
motion.

Anyway, you'll see on Wednesday and we can work it from there.

Also, I want to be talking about building a 3D printer on Wednesday, so
get thinking! :)
