Hello,

I've been thinking about my husband's paternal ancestors this morning.
I've probably posted before, but a brief reminder is:

Francisco MOURA and Philomena ROSE were probably both born in the Azores,
probably Sao Miguel, born about 1870-1875. The oldest son I know about
is Emanuel MOURA, b~1891 in the Azores, so possibly "Frank" and "Phoebe"
were married in the Azores ~1890.

Mrs. "Phoebe" MOURA and her daughters arrived in Massachusetts between 1905
and 1912. When Phoebe arrived in 1912, she listed herself as a widow. No
one has information on her husband. The family story is that he was a
whaler and possibly he had died at sea. But there is a small possibility
the couple had separated ~1910.

The 1920 census for Massachusetts has Phoebe in Cambridge, MA, and the
record says she was born in the Azores but that both of her parents had been
born in Madeira ! So, I'm now interested in any ROSE families on
Madeira in the mid-1800's, with children born in 1860's or 1870's.

My husband's grandfather was Antonio PACHECO born ~1885 very near Ponta
Delgada, Sao Miguel, with parents Joao PACHECO and Jacintha COSTA. "Tony"
arrived in Massachusetts in ~1905 as a 20-yr-old. I don't know anything
else about this family.

In both cases, I have never had the time to try to find "Tony" PACHECO and
Elsie MOURA in shipping records, both arriving ~1905. So, I don't know
who they traveled with.
