Greetings!

This is the July newsletter for the Portland Zine Symposium. The 2011 Portland Zine Symposium is fast approaching so let’s get down to business!

EVENTS

2010 PORTLAND ZINE SYMPOSIUM August 6th & 7th, 2011 at The Refuge (116 SE Yamhill St).

Half tables for 2 days are $40 and full tables for 2 days are $50 (pending full table approval) Tables are going fast so make sure to register soon as tables are just about sold out! In fact, Saturday is already full. Please email pdxz...@gmail.com to be put on the waiting list.

24 HOUR ZINE CHALLENGE
Join us at the IPRC for the 3rd annual 24 Hour Zine Challenge on July 16th! July is International Zine Month and what better way to celebrate than register to spend 24 hours making a zine at the IPRC! Registration is $5 per participant. If you are unable to make it, or you are feeling generous, you can sponsor a zinester, marathon-style. You don’t have to pay unless they complete the challenge. Every sponsorship donation over $10 gets you a free copy of the zine they created! Go here for more info to participate or to sponsor an zinester. As in years past we will also have U-Stream channel online set up to stream our ziney activities for all 24 hours!

WORD GAME WEDNESDAYS AT THE WAYPOST
The Portland Zine Symposium has been hosting a word game night at the Waypost (3120 North Williams Ave.) on the 2nd Wednesday of every month leading up to the 11th Annual Portland Zine Symposium. We will have fun word games like Banangrams, Scrabble, Apples to Apples and more! Drop in on a bike ride up Williams, have a snack or a drink, trade your zine and let you glorious wordiness shine! The event is free, but there is a fee of $1 per game entrance, as this is a fundraiser. The next date of Word Game Wednesday is July 13 6pm-10pm, this will be the last one!

HOW YOU CAN HELP THE PORTLAND ZINE SYMPOSIUM

TEACH A WORKSHOP OR LEAD A PANEL DISCUSSION
Every year the Portland Zine Symposium strives to have fun and interesting workshops. Do you have an idea for a workshop? We’d love to hear it! Please get in touch on the Symposium website and fill out the Workshop Application.

PICK UP SOME POSTERS OR FLIERS
We have left stacks of posters and soon will have fliers at the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC 917 SW Oak #218) If you are in Portland feel free to stop by and pick some up to hang up around town or send fliers with zine orders!

DONATIONS OF ANY KIND ARE ALWAYS APPRECIATED
The move to our new location, while awesome, is a lot more costly, and we could use any help that you can offer. Here are are several ways you can help us complete our goal of making this the best Portland Zine Symposium ever:

CHIPIN
In order to cover our expanding cost we have set up our own fund raiser through chipin.com. We are hoping to raise an additional $1,500 to cover our expenses and to help create a little bit of padding when we lead into next year’s event. Please considering helping us out financially if you can or placing the chipin widget on your website. ChipIn, unlike Kickstarter, allows you to donate through PayPal. So, if you have a little cash from selling your zines and are feeling generous, we would love it if you could toss a donation our way. Links to our chip in page  here.

POSTCARD PROJECT
Our theme this year is “postmarked.” What better way to celebrate that than with mail? We are offering a pre-addressed and pre-stamped blank post card for you to decorate for $5 in the USA $7 rest of the world (International postcards come with an International Reply Coupon).

Once you have colored, drawn, collaged, typed on or otherwise decorated the post card, drop it in the mail to us. All postcards we receive will be on display in a gallery at the 2011 Portland Zine Symposium. This is an inexpensive, fun, and easy way to support the Symposium even if you can’t be there. Get one for yourself! Buy some for friends! Mention them in your zine or on your blog! http://pdxzines.bigcartel.com/ (Postcards are also available from the Etsy shop of PZS organzier, Alex and are available at the IPRC in Portland)

DONATING GOODS
Are you a business that would like to make a tax deductible donation of a gift certificate, food or beverages for our events? We will provide links to your business on our website and in our program at our event. Please get in touch for more information at pdxz...@gmail.com

VOLUNTEER
What better way to celebrate the Portland Zine Symposium than with your precious time? You don’t have to be from Portland to help out! We are looking for volunteers for people to put up fliers around town, staff the info desk at the Symposium, help set up tables in the morning, keep the free food stocked, and we are even looking for new dedicated organizers to work on the event year round. If you have interested in any of these areas please e-mail pdxz...@gmail.com to sign up.

RIDESHARES TO PORTLAND AND WHERE TO STAY
Looking for a ride to the Portland Zine Symposium? Have you checked out our forums for either: http://pdxzines.com/forums/

Feel like staying in a hotel? The Jupiter Hotel is offering our Portland Zine Symposium friends discounted rates at their hotel. Follow this link to check it out... https://reservations.ihotelier.com/crs/g_reservation.cfm?groupID=583029&hotelID=5753

Again, thanks so much for hanging in there with us in our transition to a new location. Changes can be exciting and sometimes a bit scary but we think this is the best decision and we are looking forward to seeing you all there! As always, keep up to day with us on our webpage, follow us on Twitter, or like us on Facebook.

Thanks for your support!

There was an error in the newsletter that went out yesterday, a half table for both days is $20, that's $10 per day.

Thanks everyone!
