Exciting news! Tabling for the 2012 Portland Zine Symposium will open on Friday March 16 at 12 p.m. Pacific time! We sell out every year, so make sure to register early to secure your spot!

In addition, we've chosen this year's artwork, created by Skylaar Amann! The new art will launch with the website tomorrow. Check out more of Skylaar's amazing art on her website.

This year's zine symposium will take place on August 11-12 at Refuge (116 SE Yamhill) in Portland, OR. This will be our second year at Refuge.

Half tables will be $30 for the full weekend, $15 for one day, and full tables will be $60 for the full weekend, $30 per day. Please remember that all full tables must be approved by the Portland Zine Symposium organizers, so please include a detailed explanation of why you need a full table so that the organizers can make an informed decision (if you are a distro, collective, zine library, have multiple publications and if so how many, etc.) We are only approving 10 full tables this year in an effort to keep the zine symposium diverse and accessible for all zinesters. Please note that those who do not get their full table registrations approved will automatically be registered for a half table.

Also, please remember that all tables must be at least 51 percent zines. We feel strongly that this policy helps keep the zine symposium zine-focused.

And lastly, don't forget about the Up for Trades discount! Read more about that below:

The Portland Zine Symposium has always focused on fostering aspects of community and the sharing of ideas over commerce and capitalism, and that’s why we call it a “symposium” and not a “fest” or a “conference.” In addition to limiting full table registrations, as we have done in the past to create as many spaces as we can for all of the individual zinesters who want to participate in tabling, we are going to try something a little different this year. We are raising the price of full tables to $60 (for the full weekend) and only allowing 10 of them. We are also raising the price of half tables to $30 (for the full weekend).

BUT, we are offering an “UP FOR TRADES” discount of $10 for a full table and $5 for a half table. (Those who only register for one day will receive $5 for a full table and $2.50 off for a half table.) Optioning for this discount at registration will get you an “up for trades” button in your registration packet for you to wear at the symposium to express your support of our community and your willingness to participate in it by trading zines and sharing with other like-minded people. It does not mean that you have to accept any trade you are offered, but instead shows your solidarity with the collaborative and cooperative philosophy we hope to preserve at this event. We hope that by doing this we can continue to make the Portland Zine Symposium a fun and unique experience grounded in community.

Hope to see you there!
