Anyone ever try a 6 hour core and 1 nap?  I know it seems silly, but if you could turn 7.5 hours into 6.5 hours and have an extremely flexible relaxing 20 minute nap wherever in the day, it seems pretty good.  This would be considered a siesta, but usually people take those in excess of 20 minutes so I'm curious if 6 hours + 20 minutes could yield REM sleep during the nap.

This obviously would only apply to people who can't really tolerate continual sleep of 6 hours (myself).

I don't see why you could not do a 6h + 20m schedule.  It may take you a while to get used to letting yourself fall asleep for the mid day nap though.  You may try one of Placebo's sleep tracks so that you get a nap ritual started.

One extra hour a day doesn't seem like it's  worth the effort.

That's one of the recommended sleep schedules.  Many people sleep this way, and I don't think it's difficult to adapt to.

Actually, it is worth it. And it's really easy to adapt to. And it's
so flexible that the nap can be pretty much anytime, as long as there
is at least 4 hours between it and the core sleep. I've used that
schedule several times in the past, sometimes for as little as a
month, sometimes for several months running, depending on what I've
needed to do with work and other commitments. While it is technically
polyphasic, I tended not to think of it that way, though; I think
because it is is so easy to adapt to (it never took me more than a
week to change from Monophasic to biphasic).
