Recently one of our PGSA Board members resigned and we are now looking to fill that position. As a director, you are expected to attend 4-6 meetings a year, as needed, either in person or by phone. We also assume that anyone applying for the Board wants to contribute his/her time and/or expertise in furthering the goals of the organization. If you are at all interested and would like more information, please contact the Nominations Chair, Richard Stanowski, at rstanow...@owc.net or (815) 337-5835.

Genealogy and Facebook
Facebook is a free "social networking" site that has become quite popular lately with people of all ages. If you are a genealogist, Facebook can be very useful and even help you with your research! With Facebook, you can:
a.. Find cousins! It's easy to search for other members. In addition to re-connecting with your friend from grade school, the date you took to the prom, or your favorite teacher in college, it's also easy to find some cousins. Search for the surnames on your tree - if you think someone might match that distant branch of the family tree you've heard about, send them an email. You can also add your family surnames to your profile - if others are searching for those last names, your profile will also be found.
b.. Footnote has linked with Facebook to offer "I Remember" pages to share stories, photos, and memories for ancestors, friends, or other family members. Each "I Remember" page is linked to Footnote as well as Facebook, so any other who search for the person will find the page and be able to share their own memories.
c.. Start a family page - in addition to your own profile, it is easy to start a group - for example, you can start a group devoted to "The Kowalski Family". As founder of a group, you control the settings - it can be open to all Facebook members, or only those that you personally approve to join. Pages are great for extended families to post photos or plan for the next reunion - or to post the ancestral chart in hopes of finding more distant relations!
d.. Join a group - there are many genealogy-related groups to join - including one on Polish Genealogy! Join PGSA member Michael Mulholland and over 100 others in the study of Polish Genealogy. Groups have discussion boards where members can share tips, answer each other's research questions, or celebrate a special find. If you have a genealogy blog, consider joining the Genea-bloggers group.

Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Cemeteries Information Kiosks
Are you searching for ancestors that may have been buried in a Chicago Catholic Cemetery? Over the last few years the Archdiocese of Chicago has created a single database of those buried in all of the Catholic Cemeteries. Regardless of the burial site, the information in the database can be accessed via any kiosk in certain major Catholic Cemeteries. The name, location and phone number of the cemeteries that have the information kiosks can be found at: http://www.catholiccemeterieschicago.org/cemeterynews.php#location.
The burial information kiosks are generally located in each cemetery's office and are only available during office hours. The burial information kiosks in the following cemeteries are also open on Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm: All Saints Mausoleum, Ascension, Good Shepherd, Holy Cross, Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, Resurrection Mausoleum, and St. Michael.
Recognizing the importance of genealogical research, the web site of the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Cemeteries also has a page devoted to information on genealogical resources: http://www.cathcemchgo.org/genealogicalsources.php.
Also interesting is the history of the Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Chicago: http://www.cathcemchgo.org/history.php.
