All,

Based on the number of sessions we have that are 20-30 minutes in length, I came up with the following schedule:

9:30-9:50 Opening Keynote
10-10:50 Session 1
11:11-50 Session 2
12-1:30 Lunch
1:40-2:10 Session 3
2:20-2:50 Session 4
3-3:50 Session 5
4-4:50 Session 6
5-5:30 Closing Session

What does everyone think about the position of the two 1/2 hour session sections?

I think it's a good call to put the shorter sessions right after lunch so folks won't be falling asleep. Should help keep things moving a bit.

Agreed, I like how they frame lunch. Good call on that.

Hey All,

I've been milling on this session schedule tonight and came to the conclusion that we should sneak in another session set through the day. How does this schedule sound?

9:30-9:50 Opening Session
10-10:40 Session 1
10:50-11-30 Session 2
11:40-12:05 Session 3
12-1:30 Lunch
1:45-2:10 Session 4
2:20-3:00 Session 5
3:10-3:50 Session 6
4-4:40 Session 7
4:50-5:30 Closing Session

Basically longer sessions will be 40 minutes and shorter sessions will be 25 minutes.

What does everyone thinik?

Will speakers with one hour presentations be able to adjust to forty minutes?

At this point, I don't think it's a good idea to tell the speakers to shorten their sessions.

we noted 40 to 60 munutes of time for speakers in the speaker
application. At podcamp toronto everyone was limited to 30 minutes no
matter.

Daniel, which of your sessions do you absolutely need 50 minutes vs
40? Maybe we can make a special arrangement for your longest session?

Remember podcamp rules, we need to allow anyonr participating the
ability to present, we can easily accommodate more sessions by going
from 50 to 40 minutte sessions, plus it allows attendees another
session to attend 7 instread of 6.

I can accommodate. I just think it's unfortunate that the speakers will have to cut 10–20 minutes of content. Hopefully, they've already been planning for 50-minute sessions, anyway.

Angelo,

I think your reasoning is fine, but the truth is, it's a little late for us to be making this call. Even a week ago would have been better - Podcamp is mere days away.

That said, it's your call. If we have that many proposed sessions, then shorten them up and get more in. People can adjust, and, if they're good marketers, invite people to contact them after/online for more information. In the spirit of the unconference, no one should have a 50-minute "presentation" ready anyway. I think it will be fine, just explain the reasoning up front and get ready for some potential initial griping.

But we'd better make the call today, I'd say.

Well we may not need to change the longer sessions from 50 minutes to 40, we just got 2 session cancellations and I suspect one more so things may not look as tight now.

When will we know when we are actually speaking?  I have been looking for session times so I know when I need to be there and also to see if there are any other sessions I would want to attend.

That's what we're working on.

Is there a particular time of the day you would prefer to host your session?

I am open for any time.  I am working with Daniel on the long session that I thought we were going to do in the morning about Audacity, but my solo form could be any other time.  I was just curious as to when the sessions would be so I can start planing out my day.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help from Chicago, let me know and maybe I can help out.

Our biggest thing is finding folks to help at the registration tables and to setup at lunch. If you're interested in either, let me know what size t-shirt you wear and which (morning registration/lunch) you would like to help out with.

Thanks,
Angelo

Great! Thanks Sheila and Barry!

I just ordered staff t-shirts, we have plenty of those sizes at the moment. :-)  If they are like last years, they run big already. I'll find out Thursday when I pick them up.
