This coming weekend the 10th and 11th of Oct SeaChar is holding a "WEED AND SEED" Weekend at the SSCC Carbon Garden !!!!
Join us from 10am-5pm SAT AND SUN @ the south end of the South
Seattle Community College Delridge Campus (near the cell phone tower)
We
have prepped all our treatment blocks and and amended with biochar and
compost. The biochar plot test is on. Now it is time to finish up the
weeding and seed the rye/vetch winter cover crop. This is a beautiful
location and will soon be the home of Seattle's 1st, four year degree
program in Sustainable Urban Agriculture.
Many hands make light work and the early bird gets the 'char. So bring
your garden fork and gloves and help us do a little Carbon Negative
Gardening. We will be making biochar and cooking treats and hot drinks
on our collection of biochar making stoves.
Learn how you can build a biochar making stove, adopt a "Carbon Garden"
plot of your own or help build an Adam's Retort (1.5 ton capacity)
biochar kiln.
Did I mention there might be goats?
Come on down and check it out. Please, if you can bring :
- extra garden forks
- hoes and rakes
- wheelbarrows
- small rototiller
- weed burner
- weed whackers
- Card board for sheet mulching
- corn stover (Stalks/leaves) for 'charring experiments
- goat poop ( some wood chip, ok)
- food to share : we can grille, boil, etc...
- Cider or tea...
We
will make a community around this and that is so much fun. We can do
something about climate change. Come to SSCC, we will show you how. If
you have any questions, please contact me at:
art.do...@seachar.orgAnd see our website:
www.seachar.org for updates...............................think sun.............................................
See you there,
Art Donnelly
