Our Sept. Elections committee meeting is tomorrow night.

Please send me anything you have for the agenda. I'll add regular
items (approve minutes, report from NES, update from all of you re:
election status at your station, etc.).

thanks--
Bill

Bill, I have copied you and/or the pnb on the issues at WBAI, which
have not resolved themselves. We still have forums scheduled for a
major religious holiday, 9/17. We still have candidate forums
scheduled for times when candidates cannot appear, for which they
were not consulted. We still have misleading information on the
google website setup by the NES as ostensibly the official calendar.
Candidates are being treated differently; little or no information
is being sent to candidates, or at least the ones I talk with.
Please put these issues on your agenda: what is going to be done to
ensure fair elections at WBAI?

Also, the question of Bernard White's status is still pending: he is
supposed to be banned from the air and from the station. If he comes
to the station there will be much angst, to say the least.
Candidates are not the only people distressed that he is being
allowed to run, and is on the air despite his history of
intimidation, threats to the Foundation and the board members, and
disrespect for the station itself. What is the EC doing about this?

Hello,

We can't accommodate each individual candidates' schedule. We were given onair times and randomized candidate grouping. Candidates have the option of calling in if they can't make it. For fairness and logistical realities - candidates have to prioritize the forum - in other words - work their schedule around their appearance.

Its an exceptional opportunity after all. Think to yourself how many people - be it independent artists or journalist who wouldn't drop all their plans to appear onair?

Obviously if someone has an emergency or an urgent matter to attend to we will reschedule - and - if candidates of the same slate want to coordinate switching we are allowing for that - but this destroys the randomization process.

If a candidate chooses not to prioritize the forum simply because it is inconvenient - we can't do anything about that - it is a lost onair opportunity for them.

As to notification - everyone was notified via email and phone about their 2 slots this week.

As to the forum on the 17th - hmm tell me more. Nichole has not given me any details on an official forums being held on that date. This does not prevent candidates from organizing forums independently for all candidates - but this is unofficial.

The best calendar is not the google calendar - I am going to remove it actually because it is causing confusion. It is the Artistdata calendar located here http://www.artistdata.com/wbai/shows/

As for Bernard White - he must be treated like all other candidates and to my knowledge he has committed no campaign violation to merit disqualification.

It's amazing how one's viewpoint is influenced by personal values.  Renee's in show business - vocalist
Its an exceptional opportunity after all. Think to yourself how many people - be it independent artists or journalist who wouldn't drop all their plans to appear onair?
Most of the candidates I know, shun being in the public eye.  Some are familiar with it but those who seek notoriety are certainly influenced by motives contrary to good stewardship of the network.  Wanna be celebrities are really a waste of time on the board, we have enough blowhards talking on and on as it is, myself included.

Bernard White, why not?   Consider all the candidates that have run.   Lynn Stewart is in jail, she ran and got elected.  Several candidates have previously sued Pacifica or thinking about it now.   Dead or Alive, innocent or guilty, citizen or alien, two years old or two hundred, it doesn't matter, as long as your memberships paid, you've got 15 valid signatures and you're not in or running for public office.   You can be a convicted felon on death row from Liverpool but you cant be sitting on the mayor's library advisory board.    If Bernie's banned from the station, he'll just have to call in.  Talk to the iGM about it.   The NES may rule election protocol (may) but the iGM definitely controls who access to the premises (director's inspection excepted.)

I knew Renee held a high standard for voters - requiring cyber literacy and dogged alertness to sniff out who, what, where and when about the election.  Apparently she's a bit demanding of the candidates too, those selfish self centered egotists.  Why should they expect any planning, notice or coordination.  They certainly wont see any on the board if they're elected.   Oh well, good works are seldom appreciated.

Thanks Ken.  Take it from this old saloon singer -- most people don't seek the public limelight or would not drop all their plans to be on air.

It one of the reasons they go to shows.  To see the show -- not be the show.  Something that appears lost on our NES.
