Hello,
I passed my PMP exam on June 20th and will like to share my
ORGANIZATIONAL PROCESS ASSETS with you.
I have been a passive member of this group. This group turned out to
be extremely helpful in terms of comparing scores for simulation exams
and building confidence level.
Below is my Project Management Life Cycle!
1. Total duration: 2 months
2. Initiated with the PMBOK. After reading couple chapters started
feeling dizzy with the long sentences and multiples concepts in one
sentence. So I kept it aside.
3. Got 'Rita' and started it reading lightly as a magazine.
4. Solved the sample questions at the end of each chapter in Rita. Go
about 60% correct (avg).
5. This gave me confidence in planning my exam preparation with a
'progressive elaboration' technique!
6. Read Rita's book again and increased my confidence level (Risk
mitigation!)
7. When I was about 40% done with 2nd reading of Rita's book, I took
the exam date which was about a month from then.
8. Got extremely busy with my job and got very less time to study.
9. Still, on an average maintained about 2 hours of study each day.
10. After completing Rita's book twice, I started the Knowledge Area
questions from Fastrack. Scored about 72% consistently across all
areas.
11. After completing the knowledge areas, started reading ITTO from
PMBOK but gave it up after 2 pages! since I am bad at memorization.
Instead focused on analyzing my mistakes on sample questions.
12. Gave Fastrack PMP exam 1. 75%
13. Gave PM Study exam 2 - 68%
14. Gave Super PMP from Fastrack - 73%
15. Everyday in break at work kept reading sample questions from
various links on this group.
16. Appeared for PMP, PASSED.
Personal suggestions:
1. Do no keep a big gap between preparation and exam date.
2. Do not read too many books. 1 or 2 is enough. I just ready 1.
3. Focus more on solving as many sample questions as you can. I solved
about 3000.
4. Make sure you get comfortable with the simulation exams by giving
at least 3-4 of them. 4 hours can be real boring and brain draining
for a lazy person like me!
5. Try and identify mistakes in your simulation exams / sample
questions from a conceptual standpoint.
Day of exam:
1. Feel good about your self.
2. Do not fear of failing, if you score 65 - 75% during your exam, you
are going to be ok.
3. Get enough sleep
4. Do not keep reading till last minute.
5. I went about 1 hours early to the exam center. They asked me if I
will like to start early, to which I agreed since I just wanted to get
over with! I am glad I did.
Good luck to you all.
