Hey all, I am hoping someone can help me. So the short version of the
story is I installed Ununbtu 11.10, I think, but cannot get WIFI to
work on my Dell computer. I downloaded the plover linux pack and
burned it to a disk so I could install it via a disc rather than
downloading in directly from the site. Still did not work. I can't
remember the exact wording, but a pack of some nature was not there. a
apx lib or something generally like that. (Sorry it was a few days
ago.)

So I decided just to run the exe for Windows. I have a LightSpeed and
it says that there is a communication error and I can't get past the
configure option in Windows. I have my COM ports on the same setting
they are usually on, and I have tried with and without my LS software.
It works for me with my Digital Cat, and the computer reads it when I
power it up.

I am really not super computer savvy, I know the basics of course, any
tips?
I really want to check out this Plover thing, but after installing and
burning and switching back and forth from U to W, I still am not off
the ground. I have 3 usb ports on the computer, I don't know if that
could be confusing Plover, or maybe I am just missing something...

Sorry for the frustration. You're using TX Bolt protocol?

Don't be sorry! I am excited that it's even around for me to attempt. Yes, TX Bolt. I shot a message to Stan on FB--as he has a LightSpeed also-- and I have made sure I have the same settings as he does. It says connection issue with my Com Port, which is set on Plover, and LS as port 5... I tried another port, 10, just to see, and it still would not work so I moved it back to the default 5.

Hey, Thomas, I was reading what you wrote about the latest version of
Ubuntu not working with your laptop's wifi. I had that same problem
with my laptop. I spent a long time on the Ubuntu support forums
(it's a common problem) and tried everything, but wasn't able to get
it to work. In fact, the trackpad on my laptop also doesn't work with
the latest version of Ubuntu.

I have had all-around better luck with Ubuntu 10.4, which you can
still download as an image file and burn to an installation disk. This
installation disk allows you to partition you drive and boot up to
either Windows or Ubuntu just like Wubi does.

Thanks Tony. I will look for 10.4 on my next day off and see how that goes for me.
