View steno notes while writing?

Is there any way to display the raw steno output when I'm writing with plover? I know I can check the log after, but it would be good to have a small window to show me exactly what I'm writing as I enter it - this would make it much easier for me to identify mistakes, etc. How much trouble would it be to write an add-on that would do this? I'd do it myself if I had any programming experience, but sadly my forays into that field have gone very badly.

Open up a terminal window, and enter "tail -f .config/plover/plover.log"(or wherever it is, Library/Application\ Support/plover if you're on a Mac I believe). You should get the last few lines of the log file, plus all additional ones as they're written to it.

There are programs that you can get on Windows that can do the same thing. I've used one called BareTail (or maybe it was BearTail) that worked well enough (then I installed Cygwin and didn't need it anymore ;-) )

Thanks! That looks like a pretty reasonable stopgap. I'd still like to see that function incorporated into plover itself, but in the mean time, that program will do!

Hi there,

I couldn't live with baretail myself,  so I took the liberty of implementing a raw strokes input window myself, with a very primitive translation to pseudosteno as well.  It opens with an added button next to the about... button and can be closed and reopened at any time. It set it up to stayontop of other windows unless you minimize it.

So far I haven't encountered a bug with it yet so perhaps I should upload it github.  If you want I can try to 'compile' it into a .exe for you to try.

Fantastic! I personally don't like having the steno displayed, but I
can see how some people might find it useful, and I know people have
certainly requested this. I'll post about it on the Plover Blog right
