Hello,

I was going to file an intent to package bug to get plover included in
the Debian distribution. Someone has beat me to it by about 10 days. I
went ahead and packaged the application anyways, as some people may
find it useful.

The package is located here:
http://breathofoxygen.com/plover/plover_2.2.0-1_all.deb

The sources for the package can be attained with the following command:
dget http://breathofoxygen.com/plover/plover_2.2.0-1.dsc

Regards,

Yes, this was discussed on the list.

This is fantastic - something I've been wanting for a long time.

It would be great to include a .deb on the Launchpad project page. Thanks
for the patches you made while building the Debian package - I'll apply
them. Let's plan for a 2.2.1 release that includes these patches and the
Debian package. This should really ease the way for new users.

Thanks,
Josh

This is excellent, Jordan. Thanks so much. Just installed the .deb and
it worked brilliantly. Should we update the Wiki
(http://stenoknight.com/wiki/Installation_on_Ubuntu_Linux) with a link
to the package now, or should we wait for a new release, as Josh
proposed? Also, do you want me to host/mirror it on stenoknight.com,
or are you happy keeping it on breathofoxygen.com?

I hope Thomas isn't too sad that you beat him to the punch. Thanks for
the ITP anyway, Thomas! ('8

Hello,

I don't mind hosting it until it is ready to be put on the launchpad
page. When that is done, someone officially from the project should
probably rebuild and resign the package with their gpg key. A PPA is
another option, but I personally associate them with poor packaging
from the past experiences that I have had. You can update the wiki
with the link if you would like.

I beat Thomas to the punch in creating the package, but not in getting
it uploaded to Debian. Since he owns the ITP, only he can get the
sponsored upload to the Debian archives. I could only get this
uploaded to Debian as the maintainer if he fails to create the package
for an excessive period of time, or doesn't have a problem handing it
over to me. Doing collab-maint on the package (both of us work on it)
is another option. Since I licensed the packaging work under the
GPLv2, he could just use my work for his own package, if he chooses
to.

I created the package to be an "upstream" package, although it fully
complies with Debian policy and would be suitable for upload. It was
reviewed by Paul Wise, who expressed a willingness to sponsor the
upload.

This is great. I'm happy to rebuild, resign, maintain and take whatever
other steps are needed to get the package into Debian.

Thanks for jumping on this,
Josh
