Has anybody ever heard of Plone or other open source software to
support charity challenge events (runs, bikeathons, skip rope, lose
weight, cut hair -- well you know what i mean)?

If you're asking whether there's a downloadable, already-written add-on
product (or set of products) to support charity challenge events, then the
answer is no, not really.

If you're asking whether it would be possible to build such an application
with Plone, the answer is yes, but I'd expect it would require considerable
development work. Using GetPaid as the heart of your ecommerce system
would probably be a good starting point.

Given how many of these events there are in the world, and how similar their
business rules are, this might be an interesting area for a moderately
ambitious Plone developer to explore.

If you've got more specific questions, please ask away (back to the list so
others can chime in!).

best,
jon
