Why don't you read the documentation on the net in github wiki directly? (github reads markdown very well)

yes, I am doing that (though I had to google to actually find the docs, the play! homepage doesn't seem to have a link, http://www.playframework.org/2.0 )

But when I am offline, I should be able to read it from play/documentation folder. What are those md files?

I think you can find Markdown readers, there is even a plugin for Eclipse and there are tools to convert MD to HTML...
MD is markdown markup language...

thanks, seems troublesome to view the files locally. There doesn't seem to be a gui viewer for linux either.
