Sustainably, Sun, Apr
19
On
Sunday, April 19, the
Hudson Highlands Land
Trust (HHLT) will host a

the Highlands Country
Club, Rt. 9D, in Garrison,

HHLT Conserves 51 Acres
in Putnam County
Working with
private landowners and
a conservation
partner, HHLT has
conserved 20 acres in
Garrison and 31 acres
in Putnam Valley.
In January,
Garrison's Winter
Hill, a popular local
sledding destination
and home of HHLT's
offices, was protected
for future generations
to enjoy through the
donation of a
conservation agreement
on the 20-acre
property. HHLT holds
and will maintain the
easement. In 2014,
Winter Hill property
owner Chris Buck
donated 9 acres to the
Hudson Highlands State
Park Preserve and HHLT
had a parking lot
built off of Snake
Hill Road to give
hikers easier access
to the nearby
Revolutionary War
North Redoubt.
In February,
HHLT partnered with
the Westchester Land
Trust (WLT) to
permanently protect a
critical 30-acre
landholding within the
watershed of the
Peekskill Hollow
Brook, part of the
Peekskill and
Cortlandt drinking
water supply system.
The land, owned by WLT
and protected by a
conservation agreement
with HHLT, has been
named the O'Connell
Boulder Field
Preserve.
"The
conservation easement
adds the assurance
that this property
will provide scenic
enjoyment for the
public, contribute to
the health of the
Peekskill Hollow Brook
watershed, and
conserve another area
of vital wildlife
habitat for
generations to come.
HHLT is pleased to be
partnering with WLT on
a project that
provides so many
positive outcomes for
the community," said
HHLT's Executive
Director, Andy Chmar.
