Future of former Dill's Best site uncertain

SOUTHEAST- A well-known building supply company closed its doors recently, leaving only one of its kind still in Putnam County.

Dill's Best Building Centers on Route 22, a Southeast fixture for some 15 years, shut down in April, following the closing of its outpost on Route 52 in Kent in October. There is still a Dill's Best in Mahopac, as well as three others in Dutchess County, in Pawling, Amenia and Lagrange.

The decision to close the Southeast location resulted from a lack of business, along with a "tremendous pinch in the housing market," one of the owners said.
