Intelligent automation of manufacturing - summer
Flexibility, reconfigurability, and customizability have become
extremely important for modern manufacturers, but most existing
systems do not have the sophistication or "intelligence" to provide
these features.
We've successfully demonstrated an extremely modular, reconfigurable
printing system, and are currently applying these proven techniques
and algorithms to the manufacturing domain. Our methodology includes
model-based reasoning, on-line artificial intelligence planning
techniques, and an integrated approach to planning and control.
Responsibilities
The internship project will involve algorithms or software targeted at
prototypes that we are developing, and as such will be application-
oriented (rather than purely theoretical).
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will:
• Be a graduate student or upper-level undergraduate;
• Be pursuing a degree in engineering or computer science with an
emphasis on embedded systems, real-time systems, control systems,
intelligent manufacturing, robotics, artificial intelligence,
planning, modeling, or related areas;
• Have experience with software development for a real system in a
lab, previous job, or in course projects;
• Have a demonstrated ability to work well in groups;
• Be enthusiastic about working on real-world applications.
