Modified date sorting doesn't reflect dropbox website or local files

First of all, I'm considering buying Writeroom, but if it has this
same issue I'm not sure if I can do it.

I'm trying to sort by modified date, and it seems the sorting method
is much different than the way local files handle changes as well as
the Dropbox website. For example, changing file names of notes on the
desktop or Dropbox site do not change the modified date of the file.
But after making a title change, the files that were changed are moved
to the top of the list within PlainText.

I'm also wondering if moving of files in and out of the dropbox sync
folder affects this as well, as all of my other files are in
completely random order – much different than the actual modify date.

Any help/insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

(I'm replying to Vynce here for both his threads, but do check out his other thread; it's been very helpful)

I've got a lead on this with some repro steps from a fellow who noticed something similar in WriteRoom for iOS. At some stage under certain conditions, the Dropbox sync seem to be 'touching' each file during sync which can change their last-modified date.

I'm still running the repro steps under a few different network speed conditions, but at this time I don't have an ETA on a potential fix or a totally reliable workaround that I'm happy with just yet (sorry). My apologies for the radio silence on this, I had been away, twice, without internet access over the last 2~3 weeks and I'm still working through my email inbox.

It's not 100% the same issue as per your descriptions (the files had been successfully synced before without changing their last-modified stamps) but it seems to be related enough to work with.

Hey Grey, any luck tracking down this issue?

Yes, although I've been seeing this happen without running any iOS apps… I'll get a random Dropbox notification via Growl that "4 documents have been updated" (etc) where I haven't touched them in weeks -- get this, it's also happening in Shared folders that aren't even synced with any iOS apps at all. What is even stranger is that sometimes this will show up in the Events page on the Dropbox website, and others it won't even show up there (despite showing as modified in the folder itself even on Dropbox.

Something's up for certain, but it's thrown me a bit since it's happening even outside of the iOS app ecosystem.

Waiting to hear back with more details from the guy who actually does the coding and handles the Dropbox API.

I also should have checked the Dropbox forums sooner: http://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=48565

FYI, PlainText 1.6.1 seems to sort a bit better, but is still not accurate.
