Feature request - search function, HTML viewer

This is a great app and really appreciate the simplicity (and fast response)

Just some of my suggestion:

- In-line search function to highlight result text

- View as HTML output for markup files (html, txt)

I would like to join this request.

Search works to locate a document, but does not show the words in the text. We still have to scroll through an entire document to find the word.

I am very pleased with PlainText. This feature would make it even better, and I'm willing to pay for it.

I also appreciate Search Result _Highlighting_ as well, and
…useful bonus would be on the 1st showing/display_of a file with a result ,
that the view would Snap_To the 1st Search Result in that file.

Totally agree, but for me the app is worthless without Search function within a doc.

Anybody know of an iPad/iPhone/Mac app that will do what TextEdit does on the Mac?

@jdh, Daedalus is very nice and has a search function. It works with stacks of papers, gives you freedom in organizing them, and syncs with dropbox. Try it! Cheers, Dirk

But can you tell me, if I have an RTF doc on my iMac in Dropbox, and I
want to be able to read, edit, and search it on my iPhone and iPad,
will this app let me do so? (I have Dropbox installed on iPhone and
iPad as well as iMac)

Hi Joel,

Plaintext does not see rtf files in the dropbox. And when I renamed an rtf file to a txt file, I could open the txt file but it started with all kinds of settings with '//'. 

I am sorry, the name of the app is against you :-).

Another app, iA Writer, can export to rtf but does not see rtf files in the dropbox. Renaming an rtf file to a txt file gave the same effect as Plaintext.

If you don't want to resort to Pages for ipad, you probably should try Textilus (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/textilus-word-processor-microsoft/id537818639?mt=8). The latest update is called 'Microsoft Office Word Edition'. I haven't updated to that version yet, but I think it is meant to be a serious competitor for Pages and its rtf-handling capabilities should have only improved.

However, Textilus also lacks search capabilities :-(. Smart Office 2, a $10 app that looks nice and handles a whole lot of different document types, has the same deficiency. What is it with these app developers: they never search for documents?

Maybe your best shot is using one app to search (like Dropbox or Documents by Readdle) and use the share function in those apps to open the document in your writing app of choice. It's an extra step, but I haven't found a better solution so far. 

Since I don't edit rtf docs too much on my ipad (I stick with text files, easy and fast and do the layout later if I need to publish something) I have not looked any further than the apps I own at the moment.
