Bill Gates Will Speak at Dedication
Ceremony
For Carnegie Mellon’s Gates and Hillman Centers
Who: Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and chairman of Microsoft Corp., will present a keynote address and assist with ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
What: Two new buildings — the Gates Center for Computer Science and the Hillman Center for Future Generation Technologies — will be dedicated. The office, research and classroom buildings, with a total of 217,000 square feet, were occupied last month by the School of Computer Science. The buildings were designed by Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects and the landscaping was designed by Michael Van Valkenburg Associates. PJ Dick Inc. is the general contractor. A $20 million gift from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and a $10 million gift from the Henry L. Hillman Foundation were instrumental in making the new buildings a reality.
When: 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22 (media covering the event should arrive no later than 2:45 p.m.)
Where: Wiegand Gymnasium in the University Center. Parking is available in the East Campus Garage adjacent to the University Center.

Attendance at the ceremony is by invitation only. Bill Gates will not be giving interviews. Photographers will be restricted to the rear of the gymnasium except for the first five minutes of the ceremony and at the time of the ribbon cutting.
