Hi Steven
This is a problem that has been bubbling in the background for a while
now. It seems to be partly at the Pipex end according to support.
Support can't replicate the prob in its entirity but accept that there
is trouble in this area and have been working on a fix for a number of
weeks now.
Myself and a few other e-quaintances are *still* experiencing the prob
although, in my case, I have successfully uploaded pics since about a
fortnight ago when Support changed *something* at their end. My
e-quaintances however are still having trouble.
All this with the Dial s/ware. Seems the Pipex ftp will accept most
anything from *other* software, don't have that detail at hand though.
If you want *history* e-mail me.
Cheers

In your ftp program enter the hostname as:
The problem with your gifs and jpegs is probably due to the transfer
mode being used by your ftp program. This transfer mode is either
ASCII or BINARY. For binary files such as most image formats you MUST
use the binary transfer mode. Binary mode transfers files verbatim
without any translation of the CR (carriage return) and LF (linefeed)
characters. If you use ASCII mode you are probably finding that your
files are effectively becoming corrupted.
If this is not it, what problems are you having ?
Hope this helps.

Experienced same problem and emailed and 'phoned Support numerous
times, only to receive a standard response with ineffective
suggestions.
Finally spoke to a very helpful Support chap (!) who suggested
"binning" the Dial software and using Trumpet Winsock or, in my case,
Dial Up Networking.
Can confirm that all works fine under the latter...

Dear All,
As a follow up to this I've discovered that the problem definitely lies
with Dial's FTP utility. I've just downloaded WS-FTP (limited edition -
free!) and tried it out at my site. Rapid connection and fault free
transfer.
The URL I used was www.w95.com - and followed a link from there.
Hope this is of some help.

A Barber shaves everybody who does not shave themselves.
Who shaves the Barber?
Thanks for the reply. I am using binary mode and this is what is getting me
- transfer reached 100% and then freezes completely for about 30-45 seconds
- then I get a message saying connection reset by remote peer.
When I view the graphics the pics are slightly distorted - as if the last
5% or so of the pixels did'nt quite make it! You can see this on my
homepage dspace.dial.pipex.com/cotswold - go to the page with my equipment
and have a look at the scanner jpg - it is perfect in Photoshop and
Paintshop Pro.
Would appreciate your comments and thanks again.

NB How's OS2 doing nowadays - I'm reading good reports about the latest
release.

Well, it seems like you've got the answer to your problem elsewhere in
this thread (ie don't use Pipex's ftp proggy).

Yes I have a beta copy of the OS/2 Warp 4.0, codenamed Merlin.
The most talked about feature is the voice recognition engine which is
bundled with the OS - used for navigating applications and for
dictation. It definitely works, but makes significant demands on the
hardware. Also the beta is a US version which means I have to speak
with an American accent to get it to recognise certain words ;)
Sum up: It's looking good, I can't wait to buy the real thing -
probably in October.

Others may like to know that Win95 users have a command line FTP
thrown in with the OS anyway. Not exactly the friendliest interface,
but anyone that has fought with DOS and won should have no problems
after finding the 6 or so important commands. It has been fine for my
limited needs - occasional uploads to dialspace.
