You can't let Pinta die, honestly. It is a very well done program, but
even at 1.0 there are some bugs that need fixing, areas where things
can get better, stars to reach for, a horizon to explore...
Pinta is just not "dead app" material. I could understand something
like GNU Paint being dead (no offence to their developers), but
Pinta?!

I am very busy because of banshee take me a lot of time.I am working on gtk# to add ginterface properties support & banshee gtk3 migration currently. So, I will try to work on pinta again after that. I know that few other coders are still interested in pinta. Hope we can work together to add features/bugfix. Anyway, I have never been a maintainer but only a contributor to a lot of mono project (monotorrent, pinta, banshee, mono framework, monoXNA, ...). So, I can help to review code but I have not enough time to be maintainer... So if other contributors want to help on it. I will be happy to do a fork on github and integrate patch with review. But, it will only work if there is a team. We need at least 2 or 3 coders to work on review patch/bugfix/enhancement.
Jonathan,
Are you ok with that ? Do you want that we do a fork with a new name or we can keep the same name ? Next issue is the website domain...
Right now I'm trying to track down a guy who commented under the name of Tyler Samples on OMG!Ubuntu, who seemed to be quite interested in working on Pinta. With him we'd be three coders and possibly some extra testers willing to work, and we might be able to set up some sort of maintainer group that could at the least push out bugfix releases to show the world that Pinta can keep going in the intermediate term. (Unnless mr. Samples is willing to take full maintainer responsibility or someone else steps up we will probably have to share the responsibility between us.)

PS: If anyone here knows this Tyler Samples guy it would be totally rad if you could let me know. :P

First goal, make a team with a main github in common with few devs to bring back pinta alive
After this period, we will have to set up a more controlled review process with strict rules else pinta will get a lot of bug and will become unusable. A good article about the real role of the maintainer : http://ometer.com/features.html

I'd like to help contribute to development as well, and I'm also
willing to handle maintenance duties, either by myself or as part of a
group of maintainers.
I've recently pushed several bug fixes to my fork of Pinta (https://
github.com/cameronwhite/Pinta)

It might soon be time to start a new thread on the mailing list to discuss how we can go about the transition, with a new title: "Pinta is alive!". ;-) Cam, are you the OMG! Ubuntu commenter I was looking for? If not I suppose we'll have to tip off OMG! Ubuntu about this happy story once things are more sorted and we may be able to find him.

I've done a little work on Banshee previously. I will happily provide
what help I can, small fixes, documentation and such.

As soon as we can get the new thread together discussing the
transition, we can submit a tip to Joey (OMG! Ubuntu!) and have him
update the post. Hopefully, we can garner some organized support from
that.

I cloned your source. I'm not quite for sure how to commit (i've never
used git nor anything of the sort) but I have a couple of bug fixes
done as well I'm just not sure how to upload them. If you would point
me in the direction of how to do so I would appreciate it.

For general info on git, the tutorial Joe provided is good, and I also like http://gitref.org/ as a quick reference for the various commands.
The basic steps would be: 1) Create a fork of my repo on github, and clone it to your machine (see http://help.github.com/fork-a-repo/) 2) Make your changes and commit them (see http://gitref.org/basic/#commit). This is done locally on your machine. 3) Push those changes from your local repository back to GitHub (see the "Push commits" section of the link from step 1) 4) Send a pull request to the original repo (http://help.github.com/send-pull-requests/), and then I'll review & merge your changes.

I'm excited at just how much support is pouring in. Personally I'm no C# programmer, but I will try to pick it up and see if I can pitch in. Even if I can't do any coding, I'll be sure to report bugs, do artwork, documentation, promotion, etc.

Any help is appreciated! Also, pitching in on a project is one of the best ways to cut your teeth on coding. ;-)
Hi All,
I too want to jump in. I've never before made any contribution to
Pinta but was always interested in contributing some way or another.
I'm used a small piece of code from Pinta for one of my project so I'm
(was?) somewhat acquainted with the project structure. I also have
some experience working with Mono+gtk# on all Windows/Mac/Linux
platforms. I've (almost) single handedly ported one of the popular
Windows application (inSSIDer) to Mono so that it runs on all
platforms without recompiling. We haven't released the source-code but
here is the repo for binary files (https://github.com/metageek-llc/ inSSIDer-2-Cross-Platform). It is under my company's name where I'm
doing an internship. Here is my github home (https://github.com/ ashokgelal). I've not done any 'graphics' specific stuff so might take
sometime to get on track but I'm happy to take/ get any role.
It feels great to know that there are people out there who love an
open source software so much.
