Hi All:

I am newbie, and it appears to me that since the new 0.9 version came
out, all the docs have gone away? With just limited docs available
for 0.9?

For example, this url gone: http://pinaxproject.com/docs/dev/media.html

Is there somewhere the old docs have gone?

On the front page http://pinaxproject.com, task tracking is listed as
a feature, but I can see no app listed on the apps page that does
that.

How would I go about getting pinax set up with basic project plus task
tracking?

Pinax looks incredible, but not sure how to dive into the learning
curve without docs...

Thanks for your time,
Dave

I also wish some docs were available for the new release, but Right now I really need some documentation about custom template tags...

Are you trying to write your own template tags? That is covered in the
Django documentation.
https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/howto/custom-template-tags/
Pinax is built on top of Django, so start with Django.

No,

I want to know if there is any documentation about the custom template tags already defined in Pinax. Without it, it can get pretty hard to use all the functionality provided by Pinax.

To answer Dave's initial question, is there any documentation at all ?

I have my websites running fine on my local machine and I am ready to deploy into production. My host is WebFaction which is more than Django-friendly. I can deploy all my Django-but-not-Pinax applications without any problem, but I can't make any single Pinax site work. Though I repeat they are working fine on my local machine.

So, again, is there any documentation that is not obsolete ?

Thanks.

Pinax users need to be comfortable reading code to get the most out of it. As mentioned earlier, Pinax lacks comprehensive written documentation, but the code is eminently readable.

I am comfortable reading code. That's why I was able to customize and build my own websites based on the starter projects. And that's why I still consider Pinax is a great tool I want to keep using.

Now, some information cannot be guessed simply by reading the code. And the deployment process is part of that "unguessable" information. A sign of that is the obsolete information available on Pinax's website. The designers did agree that there is a need to share instructions on how to deploy a Pinax app. Unfortunately, the instructions are now obsolete.

I am not the only one to beg the dev team to share information so that the community can appropriate Pinax. It's a great tool that deserves a minimal viable documentation.

I deployed a Pinax app last year on WebFaction. I wrote lengthy deployment instructions for my client. I can share that if you feel it would help. I'd have to dig it up but it was for the 0.9a1 version; it might be useful yet.

Sure, it would be great indeed.

In the meantime, I managed to make my first Pinax site up and running on WebFaction one hour ago with the 0.9a2. But it took me 10+ hours of effective time just for that. I followed so many outdated guides and I made so many trials and errors that I am pretty sure I would have troubles to do it from scratch again.

At least, for reference, here is the doc I used:
As you can see, I am still far from a nice user-friendly idiot-proof tutorial.
