ABOUT THE PROJECT:
A tortured child grows up knowing little about the simple pleasures of family, yet wants for nothing more. Her desperate need calls for desperate actions.
Jennifer had a brutal childhood. Homeless since the age of fourteen, she has a heightened skill for survival, but no emotion or sense of guilt. She kills when she needs to; for food or a shower. But deep down, Jennifer longs for the same things we all do: love, family, home. This is the story of a stray in search of the things we all long for.
Child molestation is one of the most egregious crimes of all. It is a heartbreaking fact that most sociopath's stem from early abuse and that they frequently end up brutal killers. The message I would like viewers to glean from Stray is that these monsters are not simply born, they are created by society. If seeing the movie makes some viewers uncomfortable, good… Causes arguments or animated conversation, even better. As long as there is dialogue, there is hope.
Nena Eskridge has an extensive background in film and video production. She began producing short films in the 70’s which were exhibited at Eat More Theater, a theater she owned and operated. Her first short as director, Paper Doll, was invited to compete in the Student Academy Awards. The screenplay for Stray was accepted into the Emerging Narrative category at the IFP film market in New York City where it was awarded the Panasonic Filmmaking Grant. Stray will be Nena’s first feature.
