Passenger does not work very well with Apache from MAMP (http://
mamp.info).
After spending hours on how to get the installation done (setting
APXS2, the missing config_vars.mk file

I successfully installed passenger in Apache, but when I want to acces
the rails-application in a browser, I get the standard 500 error
message (internal server errror).

And in the log-file of Apache, you can find this:

Unexpected error in Passenger: Cannot spawn application '/Users/tini/
Sites/test': The spawn server has exited unexpectedly.

I tried both ruby, an all up-to-date version of ruby shipped in OS X
(ruby 1.8.6 (2008-03-03 patchlevel 114) [universal-darwin9.0]) and the
latest Ruby Enterprise version from Phusion.

System: OS X 10.5.5
MAMP: 1.7.2

Anybody out there who can help on this one?

Thx

Martin

You can see the error for yourself:

I abandoned using MAMP with passenger for now.
Instead I'm using the built-in apache that comes with OS X and
everythjing ist working fine.

There is a very useful tutorial by Chris Johnston on how to setup
passenger on OS X 10.5:

If you are still interested in trying passenger with MAMP again I have
found a solution for the spawn server issue. You need to run apache as
root because it is run as your user. So if you follow the instructions
on this page it should work http://forum.webedition.de/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=372
there is also on another thread at
http://groups.google.com/group/phusion-passenger/browse_thread/thread/9524a11c66c044d7/c31c334eb2807630#c31c334eb2807630
that discusses this, but this thread has a clearer title so I figured
I would repeat it here.
