I installed phonegap from github. Opened xCode and chose the user
template phonegap application. Top left corner SDK version says "Base
SDK Missing"

If I create a new project and choose one of the apple templates I can
build native c apps and test them out in the simulator just fine.

Any Ideas?

I have exactly the same problem on Xcode 3.2.3

This is a known issue.
The workaround is to select a target from the list and build. ( device
or simulator ) after having done this once and saving a project it
will not happen again.

I don't have those options available.

Hey Guys,
if you cant choose the sdk at the top left of x-code you have to first
set the base sdk in the the project settings.
Project -> Edit Project Settings.
Then choose the tab called "Build".
Under Architectures (first at top) is the option for choose the "Base
SDK".
Make sure you selected the right configuration at top left of the
settings view. (Debug or Release).

Hope this was helpful.?

Best,
Christian...

Thanks to Christian, I've managed to get this working. For me changing the BaseSDK to iPhone Device 4.0, creating the Plugins folder, closing and reoppenning the project fixed the issues and my html/js apps now run and build fine.  This is something that needs to be fixed in the git repo so others don't have this problem in the future.

Well, not yet.
Not a lot of others are using 4.0 yet. If we did change it, it will break it for people using 3.x

Has a fix been found yet? I've tried the solutions mentioned and
nothing is solving this problem for me.
