Subject: App store rejection
Hi Guys-

We converted our app to using webview, but still uses local device
contacts etc...for the app. Apple rejected it (12:3 Collection of web
links, clippings etc...) and I have it in review, however the exact
same app but with local files was approved. Does anyone have any
advice on dealing with the review board on this type of issue? Our
apps cannot be just web apps as they are for business clients and
security is a key.

Thanks
James F.

So what you are saying is if you package all the files onto the device
the app is approved. However, if you try to load the resources
remotely Apple rejects it?

correct, I put in a review board request and our app does use contacts
etc.. from the device so I am hoping it gets overturned and approved.

Thanks

I don't want to discourage you but you are probably screwed. Apple does not
like it when you load the application from a remote server. They don't like
the idea that the code could change without the benefit of them being able
to review it. They take security very seriously.

Simon-

Its fine, we can of course load it on the device, but the updates are
slower as a result to this approach. we will go this route if the current
route is failing.

Thanks anyway.

But code or data ?

I'm creating an app that get data (news, events, snow cm, hotel data) from a server (via json). I'm in danger ?

What I've seen is Apple will reject you if the majority of your
application (i.e. code) is hosted remotely. Retrieving data from a
remote server is okay.

Hi Simon

By code you don't mean html content? I.e. my app is a jQueryMobile
based app with lots of pages and about 80% of the pages pull their
content (goes in to the <dcontent> tags for that page) from external
html pages (that we can edit on our own server) as a lot of the
content needs regular updating. This is ok? So the content is code as
such as it's html code.

A good example might be the images on the external pages...they have
an onLoad function, but the code for that function is pre-built in to
the app (refreshes the scrollbar).

Not sure if pure HTML loading will work.

However AFAIK loading JavaScript is a violation as well.

I'm not the Apple App Store expert but from what I understand:

Content: Images, Audio, HTML is okay
Code: JavaScript is bad

The other thing you have to be careful of is not keeping too much
content in the cloud as Apple could just reject your app saying it
does not provide any additional benefit from a web site.

The only code that I get via remote JS is google web font and google maps api. And I think that I cann't insert it into my app.

In this case nothing that use mainly google maps provide any additional benefit from a web site. Like "cibando" app.
Or any rss reader.

However thanks.
