Yes. But, you can learn using the PhoneGap API for start.

It depends on what functionality you need. One of my apps has a lot of
Javascript - and I don't know JS! The math/conversion code pages were
downloaded from the web, then, with some experimentation and help from
forums, adapted to my use.
