problems running application on Android device

I have set up my dev environment:

Eclipse SDK, Version: 3.7.2
Cordova(Phonegap) 1.7.0
Latest Android ADT plugin for Eclipse

I can "run as" android in the AWDs that I have configured but I cannot
run it on my connected Android device. I got it once to try to run on
my device, but I an error about a used "port 8700". At the moment, it
always loads the app in the emulator even though my device is attached
and debug mode via USB is enabled. Is there some other way to force it
to try to start my app on my connected device?
