Is there a map showing the maximum flood levels that have occurred in Phnom Penh in the past? ie. The one in ten year flood event. Worst case scenario type stuff

Also is there a good map of areas that flood routinely flood even now?

Hi Paul,

Shelby Doyle:

...is an architect here doing research about the impact of flooding on the design of PP. She would be a good person to talk to regarding flooding in the past. I will invite you to the PP spatial warehouse dropbox where we have contours of PP and a DEM from JICA, useful if you can do GIS.

Are you asking out of general interest, for work or research?

Kind regards,

Wil

A bit of both work and personal research. I live here! :)

Thanks for your reply. I just found the City of Water site. Looks very
useful. I'll have a look on the weekend.

I don't know what just happened but the last message I sent was deleted somehow.

Basically, go to the Phnom Penh Mapping Meetup dropbox folder I invited you to, and then open the Inland-Waters folder. In there will be a few PDFs of predicted flooding based on various digital elevation models of Phnom Penh.

Also if you go to Uncategorized>historic flooding PP you will see a whole lot of data, only useful if you have a GIS program like arcGIS or QGIS.

Oh, also there is this recent Cambodia daily report about increased flooding now expected around Boeung Kak:

and also this:

which looks like it might be the hydrology report they're talking about in the CD article.
