ELTRO ::
[From A.D. Amorosi's article in the City Paper]:
Dense distorted noise spun into elegant musical incantation. That's the misty
alchemy behind Eltro's second CD Velodrome (Schizophonic/ Emusic). For those of
you coming late to Eltro - cool calculated vocalist/bassist Diana Prescott,
guitarist/singer Jorge "The Great" Sandrini, scattered skittish drummer Ted
Johnson, cheap electronic layering expert Rick Henderson - the unit's made lush,
lo-tech ambient pop since 1996.

THE GREAT QUENTINI :
Performance artist/dancer the Great Quentini, dressed as a yeti or man-bird,
dressed as a stilted alien scavenger, talking to Barbie, performing public
rituals to popcorn poppers, pounding away on pots and styrofoam, and generally
inspiring the genius out of us to go out and make good on the creative prowess
we're endowed with, and which he makes look so easy to be playful with, and romp
within.

HOOPTY HEAVEN
Bilwa and Alex's music spanning everything from straight-up instrumental hip-hop
to abstract sound art. The music (progamming, keyboards, and turntables)
transcends simple dance beats, as it is rhythmically dynamic and layered with
ambient sounds from our more experimental influences. Each composition is
approached from a unique angle, avoiding formula, thus allowing each track to
take a new direction.
Bilwa and Alex have been making music together since 1998. The project started
as an experiment in lo fi electronic sound, using minimal equipment. The name
Hoopty Heaven comes from a local junked car lot which resembles their studio.

V. Additional Notes
From the Philly_ambient list:
(subscribe at http://phobos.serve.com/mailman/listinfo/philly_ambient )
I've been rethinking how simpletone.com is working in regards to the online
objective of PAC(MaN) which is: to connect Greater Philadelphia artists with
other artists in the region, and new local listeners with these artists. To make
available Philly artist's music with listeners via mp3 and to bridge local
independent record stores, with local labels and distributors, cd pressers, and
the like. PAC(MaN)s objective is also to give visitors to Philadelphia and
promoters an intelligent resource on what the philly new music scene is and
where they can hang out and go record shopping.
To this end simpletone.com has an artist's directory including contact info,
mp3s, descriptions, labels, show organizers, etc. For the artist's directory I
considered playing librarian and divying up everyone into categories divined
from the artist's musical background, influences and influence. That would have
been a heady and difficult project and while perhaps useful as an attempt at
chronicaling contemporary music history, I think it would have failed at the
objective stated above.
I want an Artists directory which is more than links to folks mp3.com and iuma
pages. (I have nothing against mp3.com and iuma). To this end I need help from
the artist's to give me honest information on their musical background,
influences, demo cds, discographies, etc... this info can only help them and
connect them with future listeners.
But I also want folks to actually be able to associate their music with an
actual human being so that they can recognize them when they visit a show in
Philadelphia like Hologram or Gate to Moonbase Alpha. I want folks on this list
to be able to put a name to a face as it were. (I'm not asking for anyone's
passport photo (but if you want to share graphics are welcomed).
Presently the index for the Directory is haphazard with a mix of
band/group/project names and artist's given names. So just to start with a
reorganization and expansion of the Artist's directory I have decided to create
separate indexes for artists/musicians and bands/groups/projects. To this end,
I'd like everyone associated in a group listed in the Artists directory,
http://simpletone.com/pacman/pacmanartists.htm to give me their names and a
useful bio for helping artists and other likely visitors gain some knowledge
about your musical background and influences.
Thanks for your help keeping PAC(MaN) resources relevant.
