I like your opinion and I have an idea: "why dont we build pgbarman_server in Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to backup (like Storegrid) " ? (ref: http://www.storegrid.com/online-backup/backup-amazon-ec2-data.php) . But If we select EC2+S3, I think we have to pay more money. 

So now, I just use barman to backup & write a script to upload backup files auto to S3.

However Barman could be used now too, with adding another layer to the backup system: S3FS. I am wondering if someone tried to s3fs with barman, or other backup tools.
