This seems like a good place to forward to.

I've just added 3 subsections, 8 links, plus the 2nd provocative "Perl is"
comment. Hopefully this will help start a trend (in adding information that
is, not necessarily in escalating provocativity).

Seems like a pretty reasonable and very easy-to-learn interface to me,
however I'm a novice and probably just doubled my total lifetime experience
of wiki-based editing. It certainly seems fine for my purposes, although
I've not tried anything beyond simple text (such as adding code samples in
fixed width fonts, creating and reorganizing subsidiary pages, and so on).

I noticed that you also support tables, which is a hot button for some
people in this group, although I didn't get around to checking them out.

Any other feedback from other readers? (Especially from any other TPF
members or @Larry folks?)

PS: Sometimes the edit cursor disappears on Firefox 1.5.0.6 (which may be a
Firefox glitch). Also, I have to be using the advanced edit mode to see the
"edit tips" link. (Maybe I overlooked that requirement when zipping through
the tour.)

Slashdotted already, or connectivity problems from where I live?

In other words: it's pretty unusably slow with over 15 seconds,
sometimes even 45 seconds per page.

This is from my home box, and the network feather is in.

I get the same. Andy said it was his home box. Guess his
connectivity’s not that great, which makes me wonder why Conrad
thought it was a good place to point to.

Try it again. I've had some problems and I'm tweaking swap space and
the like. The connectivity should be find (384k upstream).

Would you like to host this on feather? That way, it's on an even faster
upstream (roughly a factor 260) and you don't need to sacrifice surfing
speed for it.

Also, feather has RAID 1 for its harddisks, and daily backups to another
host.

Thanks. I don't know what feather is, though.

I think I'm OK for now. I'm working with Ask about doing something
at perl.org in the next week or two.

feather is a corporate sponsored machine dedicated to:

* helping Perl 6 development in every sane way (including Parrot)

Effectively, this means that every Perl 6 enthusiast can get an account.
Automated pugs builds is provided by Audrey, as is a local SVK
repository. Users get web space, mail and shell access.

There are currently 68 user accounts. Some users have written a .plan,
and you can read theirs at <http://feather.perl6.nl/cgi-bin/finger.pl>.
A list of users who make documents available on the web is available at
<http://feather.perl6.nl/~/>. At this moment, 17 distinct end users run
processes.

Feather runs Debian GNU/Linux and is a Pentium 4 2.80 GHz with 2048 MB
RAM and S-ATA drives in RAID1. It's hosted in a datacentre in
Schiphol-Rijk (near Amsterdam Airport Schiphol).

The name "feather" is a word play on BoF-sessions, Pugs's "Featherlight
Perl" ancestry, and the outside layer of parrots :)

As promised in previous communication about the Perl 6 Wiki, feather is
available to host it, on the hostnames "perl6.nl" or "www.perl6.nl". A
dedicated IP address is already reserved for this purpose.

I must say I'm a bit surprised that you hadn't heard of feather before.
Apparently I should try even harder to get the word out.

During the course of a dozen or so updates I made while trying it out, it
always responded well for me.

Keep in mind that you can still run Socialtext Open, and we have
conversion tools from Kwiki to Socialtext if you want to use them.
I'll be glad to help you with it.

That would be very excellent. However here's a related idea to consider for
using feather.

IIRC, some part of the Socialtext wiki is open source of some kind. If some
significant part of your Perl 6 workplace wiki is open source, perhaps this
could be made available on feather for anyone who would like to experiment
with converting parts of it (or perhaps just extending parts of it) with
Perl 6 code (including Perl 6 access to Perl 5 code).

It might be a few more months before Perl 6 is far enough along to really
make this an attractive project to work on, but it might still be useful to
have everything ready to go. It would also give any adventurous souls
something to check out, and perhaps start formulating some suggested
strategies, features, and designs, using the perl.org version of the wiki.

Best regards,
Conrad Schneiker
