this is a very good intention :-))

It is correct that I have registered the namespace "AFS" and I am
using it since 2002. I have uploaded the following versions
pause99_add_uri_httpupload [AFS-2.00.tar.gz] 2 Jul 2002
pause99_add_uri_httpupload [AFS-2.01.tar.gz] 8 Jul 2002
pause99_add_uri_httpupload [AFS-2.03.tar.gz] 15 Oct 2002
pause99_add_uri_httpupload [AFS-2.2.0.tar.gz] 3 Feb 2004
pause99_add_uri_httpupload [AFS-2.2.1.tar.gz] 9 Mar 2004
pause99_add_uri_httpupload [AFS-2.2.2.tar.gz] 6 May 2004
pause99_add_uri_httpupload [AFS-2.2.3.tar.gz] 17 Feb 2005
pause99_add_uri_httpupload [AFS-2.4.0.tar.gz] 20 Feb 2006
And at the moment I am working on version "2.4.1".
As attachment you can find the latest email from my CPAN uploads.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to support you in
sorting out this issue.
Cheers,
Norbert

The module's there and the registration is valid. It'll stay. But it
seems like there was some trouble for the PAUSE indexer with the AFS module:
cpan[1]> i /AFS/
[...]
Distribution NOG/AFS-2.4.0.tar.gz
[..]
Module AFS (N/A)
Module AFS::ACL (NOG/AFS-2.4.0.tar.gz)
[...]
I'll trigger a reindexing of the distribution and if that doesn't help
(i.e. the above command shows a distribution for the module) within a
reasonable time frame of the order of a week, please contact
mod...@perl.org again and we have to find a different way of dealing
with this.
Thanks for getting back to us quickly.
Best regards,
Steffen
has this problem been solved or is there anything I can do about?

Unfortunately, no. I'm sorry for not replying to your earlier mail. I
read it, wanted to reply, forgot it, lost it. Sorry.
However, I still get this:
cpan[1]> i /AFS/
[...]
Distribution NOG/AFS-2.4.0.tar.gz
[...]
Module AFS (N/A)
and
cpan[2]> install AFS
Running install for module 'AFS'
The module AFS isn't available on CPAN.
Either the module has not yet been uploaded to CPAN, or it is
temporary unavailable. Please contact the author to find out
more about the status. Try 'i AFS'.
I'm not sure what causes this. Andreas, do you have any further insight?
Best regards,
Steffen
Any news on this subject ?
Cheers,
I am afraid these problems are caused by the way I have specified my
"VERSION" variable. Could this be the reason for it?

I see nothing wrong in that (yet). I'll have to dig deeper.

Seems like it's fixed by mere reindexing. You uploaded a
C<$VERSION='2.4.0'> line way before PAUSE understood that notation.
When I now do this
cpan[4]> m AFS
Module id = AFS
DESCRIPTION AFS Distributed File System interface
CPAN_USERID NOG (Norbert Gruener <n...@MPA-Garching.MPG.DE>)
CPAN_VERSION 2.004000
CPAN_FILE N/NO/NOG/AFS-2.4.0.tar.gz
DSLIP_STATUS RdcOp (released,developer,C,object-oriented,Standard-Perl)
INST_FILE (not installed)
I get the result I'd expect.
