ESPN International is seeking a technical Web Developer who will be
responsible for building, maintaining and supporting
ESPN.co.uk – ESPN’s
Multi-Sport brand in the UK. The International Digital Media team is
responsible for innovation, development and support of online experiences
across ESPN’s global platforms.
This is an excellent opportunity for an avid sports fan with deep, hands-on
technology expertise to get hands on with products and services that extend
ESPN’s brand recognition and provide world class stability, reliability,
and performance.
You will be the key local technical contact for the technical maintenance
and development of the digital properties of ESPN in the UK, however, also
work as part of the wider international digital media team on international
projects.
You will be involved in a wide spectrum of work, from project based working
to innovate and launch new products to day to day on-going maintenance and
small changes. Similarly, some aspects of the role will be entirely
internal facing and other aspects will include working with third parties,
including work on ingesting external content feeds (APIs, XML, RSS etc).
You must be able to analyse these, work out how to ingest and work out how
to format and display to end user.
Being part of an international team, means that you will have regular
interaction with teams based both in the US and India and must be able to
function effectively in a diverse environment.
Required skills:
The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding and hands-on
experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript. You should also have a sound
understanding of HTTP and how clients interact with REST-style web
services. You will have current hands-on experience with the LAMP stack –
Linux, Apache, MySql, and Perl and experience in working with high-traffic,
guest-facing application servers and awareness of security considerations
as well as experience in full life-cycle software development.
Applicants must be able to work both individually and in a team environment
to achieve results in a deadline driven environment. You will have the
ability to work on multiple projects and deliver on time according to
project schedules and work closely with product team to identify feature
requirements and identify tasks for implementation. Working hands on
experience with a Content Management System essential.
