perian.dmg won't mount as a disk image

so i downloaded perian to try it out but when i try to mount the disk
image i get an error saying that the disk image failed to mount for
the reason that the dmg is not recognized. so i tried repairing the
dmg in disk utility and aside from that i'm not sure whats wrong. any
ideas whats going on?

What is your OS version? Be aware that Perian requires 10.4.7 or
higher. As a result we use a dmg format with a different compression
scheme that doesn't work on 10.3, but provides a smaller file.

Also, be sure you tried downloading it again. Considering Perian's
download count, a few users obtaining a corrupt file is well within
the realm of possibility.
