Request for advice Perian + FCP + AVCHD

Hi,

I am a little paranoid as far as possibly screwing up a running system
is concerned so I thought I'd ask before I try.

I would like to install Perian, so I can preview AVCHD footage in
Quicktime before transcoding it to something usable in FCP. Does
anyone have any experience or recommendations with/regarding such a
setup? Does Perian interfere with anything in FCP or is it well-
behaved in that respect and the two coexist peacefully?
