Hello all,
i am having problems with Perian 1.2. I was watching a movie last
night with subtitles but i didn't finished it so i decided to finish
it today. When i opened my laptop a message for Perian update came up
on screen and i updated to the newer version. Now when i try to open a
movie (.avi) and also need subtitles to watch it (i use only .srt
subtitle files) QuickTime crashes all the time. I have also removed
all of the components for QuickTime that the Perian website suggests
for the version 1.2 to work.
The operating system i am using is MAC OSX version 10.4.11

If anyone knows what's the problem, please let me know!!!

Thank you.

Forwarding to the list where it belongs instead of sent to an individual....

Yes, we understand this and it is exactly what we needed.

Alexander, thoughts on this? You know the color space code better than I.

Not sure if this is related, but since upgrading to Perian 1.2 on my
G5 PPC running 10.4.11 I am unable to playback .flv videos in Keynote
4. The presentations play back fine on my Intel MacBook running
10.6.2, though.

If it works in QT Player, that's really as good as we can get it.
Anything else must be a bug in the program itself (excepting the
workarounds for subtitles).
I remember an old Keynote bug like this that was fixed by changing the
preference for "Allow Exposé to use screen"; you could try that.

…I noticed this before release, but thought I'd managed to fix it.
Must have tested it wrong.

I can't check this at the moment, but does this work? Replace ~/
Library/Components/Perian.component with it.
http://astrange.ithinksw.net/perian/Perian-svn.component.zip

It has this change, since it seems like weak symbols behave strangely
with data:
Index: CommonUtils.c

+++ CommonUtils.c (working copy)

sRGBColorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateWithName(kCGColorSpaceSRGB); //
does not exist on 10.4
} else {
sRGBColorSpace = CreateColorSpaceFromSystemICCProfileName(CFSTR

I'll check it myself soon and do something else (that will definitely
fix it) if it doesn't.

Actually, the problem seems to have cleared itself. I think a simple
restart was what was needed.

Apologies for troubling you, and keep up the good work.

Sweet. I've just spent a few hours scouring the web for this solution
and lo and behold, this freakin worked. You are the man. Did you alter
this component? Whatever you did you rock man.

I too have had a problem with Perian 1.2. 1.1 works fine when playing
back xvid encoded videos, but 1.2 won't let me playback the video. I
had to uninstall 1.2 and reinstall 1.1 in order to get the playback
right again. Hopefully this bug will be addressed in 1.2.x or 1.3.

Post a sample file.

It goes in ~/Library/QuickTime/ (or just search for Perian.component
and replace that).
