Developer ID and Gatekeeper

Apple just posted information about signing apps to work with Gatekeeper:

Any idea when we might see a version of the Perian installer signed with a Developer ID?

Since they just opened up the developer id, we don't have a timeline. It'd be a good thing if apple had put this information out before release schedules were already planned though.

I have to question, how many projects are going to pay for a developer ID?  How many cross-platform tools are going to drop the mac out of the cost/hassle this brings?  I've had people tell me that it's unsure whether one will have to pay for it when ML is released, but I've yet to see any evidence that it won't cost money.

Also, the only application in Perian is the updater.  Do QT components need to be signed?  Do prefpanes need to be signed?  I'd not seen a means to get these questions answered outside of being a paying developer.

I'm unclear if we'll even be able to run on a platform with signing required. Might be worth trying to reach someone in Apple's devrel team and see if they can give us a reasonable answer.

It may be faster to file a radar about improving documentation around developer id though, specifically with our user case in mind.
