A new page named "Latest News" has just been added to the Pennard &
Area Local History Google Group, to advise what's happening on the
[link] part of the
website.

Have a read of what's new, and perhaps you may have something
newsworthy to add either now or in the future.

Re Pennard Carnival

I'm sorry that I don't know the answer to when Pennard & Kittle's
Carnival began, although I've noticed that both the official Pennard
Carnival website ([link]) and the Pennard &
Area Local History website (which has a specific page for the Carnival
at [link])

1920 Kilvrough Estate Auction Catalogue

Was your property built on any of the plots of land sold at the 1920
Auction of the Kilvrough estate?

With the exception of a few of the older properties in the area, most
of the other properties were built in or after 1920, the principal
reason for this being that before that year, the Gower Villages of
Ilston, Kittle, Parkmill, Pennard and Southgate, were all part of what
was then known as the Kilvrough Estate.

Rights of Way

Much of the area covered by this Group is criss-crossed with
Registered and recognised Footpaths and Bridle-ways, although in the
past (both living-memory and from handed-down stories) there have been
many paths, whether having a legal Right of Way (or not) which have
either fallen into disuse or have been deregistered.

Books, Publications and other items of interest

I've come across quite a number of books, articles and other
publications etc which make mention of Gower in general plus a lesser
quantity of publications which narrow down to specific Villages, but
if you should know of a particular Book etc relating to either the
Kilvrough Estate in particular or to the post-1920 Villages of Ilston,

I've been advised that the old cottage called 'Manor House' on the
main Pennard Road at Kittle was the building in which the tithes used
to be received in the nineteenth century. Is this correct?
Does anyone know anything more about this cottage, have any photos,
documents, have stories etc about past inhabitants, etc?

doors, windows, wells, milestones, signposts, walls, place-names,
chimney-pots, old buildings, or anything else.
