Dear users,

We are happy to announce you a new release of our favourite product, Pencil 2.0.3
Here are new things that was implemented in this version:

For users:
  • Compatibility issue with XRE/Firefox 17 has been resolved. Pencil will now work correctly in these new environments.
  • Added implementation for group element sizing policy. This allows user define the way an element position and size can be changed when its parent group is resized. This can be considered as the first step toward a more flexible method for creating personal collections containing complex elements.
  • On-screen handle editor now supports keyboard arrow keys.
  • Plain-text elements are now positioned correctly when the drawing is exported to SVG.
  • Fixed some of the bugs reported by the community

For developers:

  • 'box' property now supports 'p:disabled' attribute to indicate when the geometry editor should be disabled.

This new version available for Mac, PC, Fedora and Firefox extension could be downloaded now from the pencil web site: http://pencil.evolus.vn/Downloads.html

Happy sketching !

Hello Fred,

Thank you for the great improvements with Pencil 2.0.

Although 2.0.2 was a little buggy, it is still a great improvement.

On the other hand, 2.0.3 hung up while updating on one my diagram files and corrupted the file during the crash.  As a result, I lost a few days worth of work.
I am running a Mac and installed the stand-alone version.  This never happened before.

It's just an FYI.  For me, from now on, I will make a backup prior to trying any new Pencil versions :(

Thanks,

John

Regarding free lines and other dynamic connectors, they need to be anchored to another stencil.  If you drag an endpoint of the connector over a corner of a stencil, you'll see the drag target box change color and grow in size.  Release the mouse and the connector will be associated with that stencil.  You can then alter the path of the connector by moving either the connector or the stencil.  So far as I know, a dynamic connector may have this association with only one stencil at a time.

I realize I'm late to the party, but I hope this helps.

How on earth do you make free lines 'free' and not straight?! It's driving me crazy.

Hello Fred,

I had problems with 2.0.3.1 and had to revert back to 2.0.2.

When I opened one of my mockups with the latest version (on a MacBook Pro), some of the elements on the page were gone.  Fortunately, everything worked once I went back to 2.0.2.  Have you had similar problems from other users ?

Also, I was confused about the evolus website.  The following two pages have conflicting information:

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

To be honest, I'm still using Pencil 2.0.3 standalone that is stable for me (Win7) and I never experiment such issue with my mockup files.

Regarding the download, you are right, the second page was not updated. For experimented users like you, I would recommend to always refer to the repository for the latest version.

cheers,
Fred

Hey Fred,

Hope all is well.

In that case, what is the best approach?  At this point I can no longer update my version.

Thanks!

John

I would say that you could stay in 2.0.2 for the moment ...
