SELOUS
(formerly Hutton, née Leeds), Rhodanthe Winnaretta (Danthe), widow of
Ronnie Hutton and of Gerald Selous, peacefully at home at Langley
Grange on 14th May 2010, aged 81. Beloved mother of Matthew, Paris,
Louisa and the late Debbie; mother-in- law of Nigel, Charlie, Annie
and Matthias; stepmother of Gerald, Sarah and Andrew; much loved
grandmother of 10, stepgrandmother of 6 and dear friend of many. A
family Cremation will take place in May. There will be a Service of
Thanksgiving for Danthe's life at Holy Trinity Church, Loddon at 12.30
p.m. on Friday 16th July; please wear bright colours at her request.
Please park at the house by 11.45 a.m., for transport to the church.
Donations in memory to The Deborah Hutton Campaign or Marie Curie
Cancer Care, c/o Young's Funeral Directors, Loddon, Norwich, NR14 6NA.

She was the dau of Cdr Sir Reginald Arthur St John LEEDS 6th Bt RN
(1899-1970) and Winnaretta dau of Paris Eugene SINGER of Paris. She m
1st 1952 Capt Ronald David HUTTON MC (1922-84) son of Charles Inglis
Hutton, of Harwell, Berks; she m 2nd 1991 Cdr Gerald Maxwell Braddon
SELOUS OBE VRD JP (d 2007) and has a son and three daus from her first
marriage. (Her eldest dau, Deborah Helen [Mrs Charles Stebbings] born
1955, predecesed her in 2005.)

Yes, he was. Paris was also the father of Isadora Duncan's short-lived son Patrick.

Winnaretta Eugenie Singer, Princess Edmond de Polignac, was Paris's sister, and another sister, Isabelle Blanche Singer, married Elie, the 3rd duc de Decazes.

Isaac Merritt Singer, the founder of the Singer Sewing Machine Co., was polygamous, maintaining several families simultaneously.

He married Cecilia “Lillie” Graham.

12 Isaac Merritt Singer. Born on 26 October 1811. Died on 23 July 1875. He was buried in Torquay cemetery.

He married Isabella Eugenie Boyer, on 13 June 1868 in New York, New York. Church of St. John the Evangelist, Waverley Place.

Selous DSO, the British explorer, officer, hunter, and
conservationist, d.1917. The name is unusual, and in the case of
Frederick was a respelling of the original Huguenot French name
'Slous'.

Frederick's brother Edward Selous (1857-1934) married Fanny Margaret
Mawell (1863-1955), daughter of John Maxwell and Mary Braddon. Their
son Gerald Holgate Selous (1887-1978) married Camilla Lippinott of
Pennsylvania (daughter of Joshua Bertram Lippincott). Gerald &
Camilla were the parents of Gerald Maxwell Braddon Selous.


I think this makes Gerald Maxwell Braddon Selous grandnephew of the
explorer.

Many thanks Dennis. I should have mentioned that the (in)famous
Rhodesian 'commando' force, the Selous Scouts, was named after
Frederick.
